San Diego River Outreach and Education Programs

grant parkWe believe that experience is the best teacher. Our programs are designed to provide hands-on learning experiences for people of all ages and foster a better understanding of the value of the San Diego River as an ecological, cultural, and recreational resource and to encourage stewardship.

We also host outreach tables at many community fairs and festivals within the watershed. Come say hi to us when you see us! If you would like to volunteer to do outreach in the community to share your passion for the River, please email volunteer@sandiegoriver.org or call us at (619) 297-7380.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience nature along the River! These programs and projects help to make this experience accessible to people of all ages and abilities:
  • Cool River Program: this program is designed for youth ages K-8 and their families. Kids take a tour of the San Diego River, sample and examine critters from the River and unlock the secrets about the River’s health.
  • Three-day Field Trip Series allows students in grades 5-12 to participate in a spectrum of experiences in multiple habitat types from preserves to urban areas to the ocean, strengthening their environmental understanding.  Students will collect data about ecosystem health, and also complete a service learning project to restore degraded habitat.
  • Trail Connect: this interactive trail signage allows people of all ages to learn more about the River while in the field using their smart phone or mobile device!
