It is official! Thanks to the support of so many, we have now completed the acqusition!

The property is located off Eagle Peak Road near Julian and Pine Hills.

BACKGROUND

More than a decade ago, we identified the importance of conserving open space along and near to Eagle Peak Road. Since then we have completed the acquisition of more than 20 parcels! There are many additional parcels which if developed would put the important Upper San Diego River Gorge ecosystem in jeopardy. Many of these lots are very small (less than 2 acres). Creating access roads to them across public lands would threaten the scenic and biological integrity of the Upper River Gorge.

Thank you for if you have previously joined with us to conserve the source of the River and acquire open space so that it remains open for generations to come.

A gift of any amount is greatly appreciate and needed to support future acquisition efforts! We hope you will consider donating. Thank you!

Current Projects

  • Portal Acquisition in the Eagle Peak Conservation Area
We have worked out details with the owner of several parcels within our South Rim Focus Areas totalling about 40 acres. The property is adjacent to a proposed Wilderness Area within the Cleveland National Forest. Its development would have a significant impact.

  • Final Property on El Cajon Mountain

After years of work, just one privately owned property remains within our El Cajon Moutain Conservation area. We have set a goal of raising $25,000 to purchase the property if it becomes available. At this time, the owner has not agreed to sell the property at a value we can support. We will continue to continue to contact the owner on a regular basis to see if we can come to terms.

  • Boulder Creek Conservation in the Eagle Peak Conservation Area

Fisherman's Camp is on Boulder Creek, one of the major tributaries of the San Diego River. We continue to work to restore the Creek and make improvements to the property to support it as a Education and Research Field Station. In the meantime, we are currently exploring opportunities to acquire additional properties to protect the Creek as well as other Creeks to the south.

Final Update:
Feb. 14, 2018

Total donation is shown for those that gave multiple gifts. Pledges are also shown.

* We sincerely apologize for any errors. Please let us know so we can correct them. Thanks to a supporter, 100% of your donation goes to the direct cost of purchasing this land.

If we are fortunate enough to reach our goal, we will proceed with completing the purchase. We will then review our final expenses and, if needed, adjust (up or down) the amount of funds raised which are needed. Any additional proceeds will first go to add $600 in the Eagle Peak Endowment Fund to pay the taxes and insurance of the property going forward. Any remaining funds will remain in our land acquisition funds and be used for a future acquisition. All donors will be recognized for their gift to this effort. Of course, if you would like your gift to be anonymous, just let us know. Thank you!

Gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
